“The Lord God of Israel whose wings thou art come to trust.” Ruth 2:12
Under God’s wings; a picture of safety, security, protection and shelter. In Psalm 57:1 David said, “in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge until these calamities be over past.”
There is a story of a prairie fire and Chalkie the chicken. Chalkie had ten little chicks. She was out in the pasture when a fire came sweeping through. She clucked and her ten little chicks gathered under her wings. The next morning she was still in the pasture and upon investigation it was discovered that she was dead. When she was picked up, there was heard the peep, peep of her ten little chicks. Chalkie gave her life for her chicks. Under her wings they were kept safe.
What Chalkie did for her chicks is what Jesus has done for us. He died on the cross that we might live. What a privilege it is to trust Him as Savior. He is eager to gather us under his wings even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But, he sat on a hill that overlooked Jerusalem and wept, because they would not. There are many excuses by those who “would not”. I’m too young, I’m too old, I’m not too bad, I too good, there is too much to give up, or I’ll do it later. Today is the day of Salvation. Today, if you hear his voice, harden not your heart. Some day the door of opportunity will be shut and it will be too late. When Noah and the animals were in the ark, God shut the door. For those without, there was no more opportunity, because they “would not”.
Will you be gathered under His wings?
